Riot police deployed in force to a troubled suburb of Paris on Tuesday night after youths hurled gasoline bombs at public buildings, pelted police with projectiles and took to the streets with baseball bats the night before.
As with the massive riots last Autumn, many of those who rioted were of immigrant origin (African muzzies), laying bare decades of discrimination and France's failure to integrate immigrants and provide opportunities for impoverished youth.
Youths from Montfermeil said on Tuesday that little had changed since then and that suburbs like theirs remain tinderboxes.
"All we need is a pretext for everything to begin again," said Joana, 15.
"Nothing has been fixed and things are getting worse," said sociologist Michel Wieviorka. He said France's model of racial integration is "totally broken down".

France 'is getting worse'

News24 South Africa
Montfermeil - Riot police deployed in force to a troubled suburb of Paris on Tuesday night after youths hurled gasoline bombs at public buildings, pelted police with projectiles and took to the streets with baseball bats the night before.
Dozens of vans carrying riot officers were stationed in Montfermeil, just 15km east of such Paris landmarks as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, and in the nearby suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois, the flash point of riots last year.
A helicopter had the area under surveillance. While there were no immediate reports of a repeat of the violence of the night before, a firebomb was thrown inside a police vehicle, setting it ablaze late on Tuesday. Officers inside barely had time to get out.
The first overnight clashes on Monday and the palpable tensions again on Tuesday were a stark reminder of the anger that smoulders in depressed French suburbs, despite new government efforts to tackle high youth unemployment and racial inequalities following the three weeks of similar, albeit far worse, rioting last fall that shook the country.
National police said nine officers suffered light injuries, mostly from projectiles, during the three hours of unrest in Montfermeil on Monday.
Police said they made three arrests and fired rubber pellets to try to disperse the roughly 100 youths. The trigger was the arrest on Monday afternoon of a suspect in the beating of a bus driver earlier this month, the mayor's office said.
The mayor, Xavier Lemoine, said he witnessed that first attack on the driver and had interceded to stop it.
On Monday night, following the suspect's arrest, "about 100 people headed to my house shouting 'The mayor is a son of a bitch,"' he told The Associated Press in an interview on Tuesday at city hall.
"The police reacted right away and a violent confrontation took place about 100m from my house."
He said gasoline bombs were thrown at city hall - although there were no evident scorch marks - and that a separate municipal storeroom was partially burned. City hall also suffered two broken windows and shattered glass on its front door.
Last year's riots started after two youths were electrocuted to death while hiding from police in a power substation.
Many of those who rioted were of immigrant origin, laying bare decades of discrimination and France's failure to integrate immigrants and provide opportunities for impoverished youth.
Youths from Montfermeil said on Tuesday that little had changed since then and that suburbs like theirs remain tinderboxes.
"All we need is a pretext for everything to begin again," said Joana, 15.
Tension in Montfermeil has remained high since the mayor last month banned teenagers from circulating in groups of more than three, and ordered youths under 16 to be accompanied by an adult in public. A court later overturned the bans after protests from civil liberties groups.
"Nothing has been fixed and things are getting worse," said sociologist Michel Wieviorka. He said France's model of racial integration is "totally broken down," and that politicians on the opposition left and Chirac's right appear hamstrung until next year's polls.

Wasn't there some legislation being put up to start deporting these angry youth (who happen to be Muslim)? I don't see what the problem is.
If you're caught in the streets with a molotov cocktail in your hand, you're deported.
If your picture is take in the street with other angry "youth", you're deported.
If anyone complains about you being in the street when something happens, you're deported.
And oh by the way - there's no trial, no jury, no sentencing -- you're just rounded up and deported. Like herding stampeding buffalo over a cliff.

Evening Nahn
Wasn't there some legislation being put up to start deporting these angry youth (who happen to be Muslim)? I don't see what the problem is.
I think the problem is three-fold:
One, the French would need spines in order to actually implement that piece of legislation.
Two, doing so would be against wretched Brussels "laws". (I know that means very little to La France-and rightly so-but the hand wringing left wingers in euroland would go ape-shit) if Sarko, for example, started to throw these "youth" on ships bound for Marrakesh.
And three, political correctness is the overwhelming driving force of ALL western European governments currently in power. They are all slaves to PC.
So, the riots will keep a brewing. All there needs is one small match and POOF, Paris-and God knows where else there-starts burning...

bomb away lemay .
i read a very serious article here from a people living in south africa(but who knows well these suburbs). He said that the separation between the native french and the arabs was deeper than during the apartheid(between blacks and white)
The most incredible is that we don't understand all( a part yes but not all) . we never had apartheid laws .
it is a mix of so much things . but one knows for example that some of them feel "alienated" in france(their own words)
and if you ask them why, they will tell you: because they don't accept islam ,etc, etc
but in fact, they simply can't accept the traditional french way of life .
it exists discrimination in the job and in the housing . but currently ,we try to fix it.
about the deportations BAL, you deport the black americans you ?

Evening simple
about the deportations BAL, you deport the black americans
No, it's immoral-and illegal-to deport "black" people. A person's skin color can't be illegal, here of course...
We have deported lots of illegal citizens, and even those who have residency permits, who have committed even somewhat serious crimes.
but in fact, they simply can't accept the traditional french way of life
I agree. That fact should be very worrying for France. You know, Simple, they can't be allowed to stay in France with attitudes like that.

OK. How about this then: it's a well-known French trait that if they can find an equivalent in America for whatever evil they're currently perpetrating, then that makes it alright to continue to do it.
What you are doing with your black comment is (1) trying to change the subject, and (2) trying to find an equivalency with America, so that (3) you can claim that you don't have to do anything to YOUR blacks (who are rioting and burning shit up) because we haven't done anything to OUR blacks (who are NOT rioting and burning shit up).
I'll bet you Frogs learned all of these techniques in a sophomore debate class, because they sure don't fly very well in the real world.
How 'bout that?

SimpleFrench sounds like he's getting smarter...and he's right that there are no easy solutions. The 'multiculturalism' mantra of Europe (for decades) isn't going to be changed overnight...it'll take a generation. I don't think France has that long.
It's so very different in America. We don't expect people to be some strange vanilla 'American'. We expect them to be American...however they want to do it - as long as they buy into the dream. Chinese-American, Mexican-American, Irish-American, Italian-American....those are terms you never hear matched with European countries....Turkish-German? Italian-French?
Well, and America eats your children. One generation goes by and you think the kids come from seven generations of valley girls.
It's going to be a bad summer. I'll be out with my lawn chair and popcorn watching the Car-B-Qs, but SimpleFrench, you take care.

Simplefrench:
it exists discrimination in the job and in the housing . but currently ,we try to fix it.
Less than those assholes try to make believe it, just always the same shit speech, do they believe the french are not concerned by the unemployement and the economic crisis?
And what boss should employe a guy who can quite read and write and is unable to speak more than 3 words correctly because he has left the school at 14 and he has spend all his time in school to make the zizanie, those who try to make something of their live and deserve help and consideration are not in the streets to burn cars and to stone the police, the rioters deserve just one thing, a good couple of slaps.
Anyway, they are not more poor than all the working class is, all they want is like Arpege has said, just priority everywhere, for work for flat for welfare, live like prince without working, the state lick their ass and give them all what they can ask and want.
This is just one thing to do, send the army and give it carte blanche to 'leur rentrer dans le lard', with no risk of trial for 'bavure' (blunder??).
They want to fight? ok so give them what they want!!
They make riots only because they know that they can do with no real reaction from the authorities, they feel like the masters, and in fact the power let them be the masters.
It will even getting worse and worse until the ethnic/civil war because our politics are too cowards. It makes me feel like to shout "fuck france" when i see that, shit!
What the hell the power is waiting for to react???

When the South Africans are ragging on France for race problems then you know France is in deep, deep shit
Don't be wrong, yeah there are races problems but not as you believe, the state is not racist (it would be so much better if the state was sometimes not so afraid to be), it's the africans who are generating those problems, they are much more racists than the state is.

4 French out of 5 think that new massive riots will start again . In November on FF.com we said the riots would start again when it got warm.
Looks like AltesEuropa quit FF just in time.
I'm waiting for the first firebombs near the Lourve.
