Default Anything u know for rent in Puerto Plata
I have been living in Santiago for the last 4 months though I d like to get away from the dust

I m looking for a place to settle down for a longer term . I ve tried Rio San Juan, Cabrera and and really pretty Loma de Cabrera. What I m missing in those places is a good library the way I have it here in Centro Dominicano Americano in Santiago. I think Puerto Plata or close by could be a good choice. Do you know where I should start to find a room, studio or such. El Faro, the local diario does not have ad section.

Any advice

Peter

Hi,

I have a term deposit in pesos. I have acquired it in january 2006 when the rate was 24% for fixed 2 year term. They deposit 2% at the beginning of each month in my dominican bank account.

The rate has lowered since to 21% for 2 1/2 years term but that can go higher or lower any time.

I Hope This Is A Free Speech Forum. Im A Dominican Born Who Is Concern With All The Wrong Things Happening In The Dominican Republic With The Foreigners Moving To Puerto Plata, Boca Chica O Punta Cana. Even Santo Domingo.

Some Of This People Go To The Dominican To Sell The Country As A A Sexual Paradise Others Do Ilegal Things Like Prostitution Or Child Abuse. I Believe We As Dominican Should Be More Aware Of The Damaging This People Are Doing To The Country And Culture. We Do Not Want More Criminals From Overseas Coming To The Dominican. I Thing People Like Me Who Believes In Defending Our Country And Culture Should Get Together And Claim More Watch On Foreigners When They Move To Dominican.
Troll.

Dumb nationalist talk!!!!

I have seen that in many countries. When you dont want to look at your own weaknesses, blame it on someone else, namely in this case the foreigners.

How pityful!!!!!

One way possible or roundtrip only?

Colombian embassy in Canada told me I can only get in Colombia with roundtrip ticket, how strange since I've since posted otherwise.

thanks ...

for your entries, I'm always wondering about those rigid rules created to sell more tickets. It doesn't make sense if one wants to visit 3 or 4 countries in an area.

Can I make it with a bus ticket to the next country? :)

Not so sure, I have flown a couple times directly in the states and I told them " I'm taking the bus back to Canada" and never bothered me.

Alternative to banks?

I've read extensively postings about benefits of using ATM instead of foreign cash or travelers c., thanks to all contributors.

Is it possible to change travelers c. at hotels or black market?

I've done that a lot at restaurents and hotels in Domonican republic with a little better rate than banks or casa de cambio.

Looking for a hot nest...don't get me wrong or so little.

Hi everyone,

I have had fun roaming around this website (I'm a newcomer).
I'm planning a first time longterm stay(up to a year)in the nortern part to investigate possible relocation.

Whereabout can I find cheaper monthly accomodation to cut on expense. Should I stay out of turistic cities or can I make it there anyway?

Is there any central office to seek volunteering opportunities or even jobs(2 years teaching English experience in China).

I'm fairly fluent in Spanish.

So long,

Peter

ABC for Canadians

Here is copy of what you bring in Colombia according to the Colombian consulate in Canada. Questions follow.

***Tourists are allowed to bring the following personal effects to Colombia, free of charges:
Maximum of 6 books, 6 magazines, 6 recorders, 6 paintings, 6 bottles of liquor, 2 photographic cameras, 2 electric appliances for personal use, 2 art or work related articles. The total value of the effects should not exceed US$1,000.
When declared as entered on a temporary basis, the following items are allowed as well without charge: laptop computer and video camera. These items are subject to inspection upon your departure.
Tourists are allowed to bring up to US$7,000 in cash or documents.***

Can I bring more than US7,000 and simply declare it on the form as heard before on previous posting? Do they enforce minor details like number of books?( My assortment of teaching books are easing my life :)

I have visited around 15 countries in Asia and Latin America but never saw so many details except for booze and smokes.
