SEATTLE - Air Canada says it has exercised options and purchase rights to order 23 Boeing 787s.

Jeez...how is Boeing going to handle all of this work over the next few years? They may have to subcontract work out the frogs at Airbus, who may be out of business soon. I hope Atlantic is ready to jump off a building.

Fuck France.

Air Canada orders 23 Boeing 787s
By Associated Press

SEATTLE - Air Canada says it has exercised options and purchase rights to order 23 Boeing 787s.

At average list prices the order would be worth about $3.7 billion.

Air Canada now has 37 of the new mid-size widebody planes on order and says it's the largest North American customer for the new plane Boeing is rolling out this summer at the Everett factory.

The Montreal-based airline is taking options for 32 more of the planes, but reducing a previous order for Boeing 777s by two planes.

Air Canada says it will use the new 787s to replace Boeing 767s and Airbus planes in its fleet.

Boeing's going to have to double B787 production starting 2009.

Airbus won't even have started building its first A350 by then.

The financial gap widens with every new B787 sold (biggest North American and biggest European customers signed up the same day and the ramifications will be felt for the next 15-20 years at least, assuming Airbus doesn't screw up again.

Virgin's Branson has already said the A380 is a financial disaster and is very unlikely to break even.

He was being polite.

Fuck France and all the loser frog apologists out there and in here who still mistakenly think france is a great country.

Girls, it's not.

That's great news for Dassault Systèmes, Deutsch, Messier Dowty, Messier Bugatti, Michelin, Labinal, Latécoère, Liebherr Aerospace, Radiall, Snecma, Thales and Zodiac and the subsidies from Japan of course... Vive the most non-American Boeing plane ever made...

I do hope for Dassault Systèmes, Deutsch, Messier Dowty, Messier Bugatti, Michelin, Labinal, Latécoère, Liebherr Aerospace, Radiall, Snecma, Thales and Zodiac that the overweight 787 will fly one day and that its plastic fuselage will not explode after a few pressure/temperature cycles... :?

First have you notice you are projecting Airbus’s real life structural problems (A340 over weight problem and the A380's ) onto 787 which is comming in on specs.

Next you show your total lack of understanding of plastics and its polymers much less plastic thermo dynamics. Stick to what you know and that is plumbing, as we all know you know shit!

The Comet got stopped after two crashes which were caused by layout-faults. The reason of these problem was not a lack of qualification of the engineers who designed the Comet, it was the price which had to be paid for entering areas of the aviation which had so far not been realized. Those were mainly long distance flights in 33Kft at 800 km/h, a challenge when we remember that computers, calculators and other items which are nowadays natural didn't exist at the time the Comet was designed.

After having finished the investigations of the two major Comet crashes, the detailed design of the Comet 4 could be started. But the two year long investigation had allowed to the two US giants Douglas and Boeing to design respectively the DC-8 and B707, which had a significant technological lead. That's why the fate of the Comet is identical to most other innovating developments, even if technically the Comet was a success it was a total financial disaster (sounds like airbus to me .

As I said before you know shit.

That's orders for 71 B-787's in the last 36 hours.

Virgin Atlantic will replace their junk Airbus 340's with these 787's.

Virgin will as a direct result of this order offer non-stop B787 flights from London to Australia, Rio de Janeiro, etc...

jack,

Nice work on the Comet. Isn't it amazing how frogs like Whiny hit the "All Your Yesterdays" button when confronted with today's unpleasant reality (eg Airbus)? Happens all the time but is as selective as can be, since french domestic history 1940-1944 isn't exactly a subject they like to dwell on. Personally, it's one of my favorites.

I flew on the Comet 4B a couple of times. Concorde without the, er, everything (small, noisy, no chmapagne, etc). But class.

Remember the joke that was the Dassault Mercure? Far as I can vaguely remember, some of them were still in service in the early 1990s with Air Inter. What a piece of french rubbish.

And isn't it good of Boeing to subcontract B787 work to British-run companies like Dowty and German-run companies like Liebherr, and so magnanimous of shitbox to mention them in his praise of the B787 program, the most internationlized commerical aviation program in the history of the industry -- something Airbus could have gone to school on had it not been too late for them now that the end is near.

And although I don't have the slightest confirmation yet so this is no more than a discussion point (rumors are for airliners.net), there are suggestions in Chicago that Boeing will announce a B787 order from US Airways either today or tomorrow, having pinched the business from right under Airbus' nose and despite the European manufacturer attempting twice to buy its way into US Airways' good favor, first with a $250m loan and secondly with a straightforward $89m gift (May 2006).

If Airbus had concentrated on delivering on its promises instead of handing out other people's money, it might not be hanging over the cliff-edge today without a future like it surely is...

This is why euros haven't gone anywhere in the last century.

Can you imagine if, while tinkering away on a wing, one Wright brother said to the other; "Remember that silly looking thing with the cymbal on top that just bounced around? Or that thing with 25 wings that collapsed under it's own weight? Maybe we just build a hot air baloon instead."

Too much ambition can be an ugly thing, but to have none of it at all is the worst thing I can imagine.
