Clegg: Blair's campaign to be EU President "an act of vanity"

There is wide comment on the prospect of Gordon Brown backing Tony Blair's candidacy for the EU Presidency. The BBC reports that Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has said that any attempt by Blair to become President would be an "act of political vanity". Brown's backing of Blair would be "an embarrassing diversion" for the PM, Clegg added. Meanwhile Jerome Guillet, one of the founders of the campaign to prevent Blair from becoming President, known as the StopBlair campaign, has indicated that he is backing former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer for the job.
