Located on the trade route between East and West, Canaan was a prosperous region attacked repeatedly for its wealth by Ancient Egypt, Persia, and Babylon. The Jews wanted their land ("flowing with milk and honey"), plain and simple. That's the reason they launched their genocide against the Canaanites. Do some fucking research with vetted sources.
