Let's be fair about this:
In determining the medal count for the EU fantasy team, no European who medals but had an EU qualifying mark outside the top 3 EU qualifying marks should count. Because, of course, they wouldn't even be in the Olympics if the EU was restricted to only 3 athletes per event.
If any top 3 EU athlete is disqualified or withdraws, any medals won by non top 3 EU athletes in that event should count.
In any relay or team event, if a top 3 EU team is disqualified or withdraws, any medals won by not top 3 EU teams should count.
In any event where an EU athlete or team who didn't qualify in the top 3 interferes with and prevents another non EU athlete or team from medaling - all EU medals in that event should not count.
There is no question that the fact that the EU countries can each send 3 athletes or teams for each event is a huge advantage and makes any medal count comparison to any other single country ridiculous.
