In my opinion, he was the best general on either side in the Revolutionary War. Washington was a great leader, he was the one man who could keep our side united and focused on winning the war. But Greene was the best field commander that we had, except for maybe Benedict Arnold, who hardly counts because of his duplicity.

I've mentioned Nathanael Greene on here before, whenever the French try to claim they "won" the war by defeating the British fleet at Yorktown. Cornwallis was at Yorktown in the first place because Nathanael Greene and his 100 percent American army, without a single Froggie, defeated him and forced him to abandon the Carolinas. That campaign is what turned around a war we were losing, not anything that a Frog did.

Best comment of the evening goes to DelendaEstGallia for his precis of Nathaniel Greene and the work he did in the Carolinas and Virginia. What I most admire about Gen. Greene are qualities that I look for in other people in the organizations I analyze and visit when doing stock research.

1. A deep curiosity and intellectual approach to a problem before taking action.

2. Patience to see the goals realized. Good plan, good action, and excellent execution.

Patient, unflappable, and very intelligent. Greene may even rival Washington in most of the military qualities, even though I am a big fan of George Washington.
