My neighbour has just bought that 1973 Dodge Charger SE (Jeez! That car is as old as me :D )

Image hotlink - 'http://www.fuckfrance.com/images/i251/175822.799moteur.jpg'

Image hotlink - 'http://www.fuckfrance.com/images/i924/175823.994cote.jpg'

The condition is not really "neat", as the car needs a good bodywork, but the guy is a "coachbuilder"(?) (sorry, my English vocabulary reaches one of its limits on this one: you know, he's the guy who repairs your car when the wife "forgot" to brake ... :) ) and that's hence not a problem for him.

The chassis is in near perfect condition, and the engine... well...
It's a 360ci, runs fine, and I'm here to help, and for "upgrades" :D

So, here come the questions for experts:

Image hotlink - 'http://www.fuckfrance.com/images/i098/175824.592cote2.jpg'

Image hotlink - 'http://www.fuckfrance.com/images/i916/175821.551vitre_lat_rale.jpg'

Is this genuine? The cracks seem quite odd.
I've already discouraged him to buy flashy alloys, as the genuine ones are superb (and in EXCELLENT conditions) but he plans to get rid of those "stuff"...
The question being: are they genuine, or a tune?

Second question:
Do you have any (web) addresses where he could buy stuff for his car (sending the parts to France, of course ;) )

Any help appreciated!

Those seams around the rear quarter windows ("Opera windows") are probably genuine as they were hidden by a vinyl top. (Which appears to be missing)

Dude that's like primer on the whole car...I wonder what the original paint job was...tell your friend to take a knife and scratch down...then go get a new paint job...

The car seems to be in factory condition (1973 Special Edition Charger), except that engine...360's started in 1974 not 73.

Whats the vin number...this will tell you where it was made and what was the engine. Also if you can...post a picture of the fender tag...I can decode most of it for you.

Yes, I'm a charger nut!

Grey is right, the opera windows are original with the vinyl top.

Your neighbor may have trouble finding the correct mouldings if he decides to remove them.

Remember the closer you are to the original car the more it's worth!

Its a square tag with building codes, on the fender near the window washer fluid bottle.

The "cracks" (above the 2 screws that you have marked) you are talking about, are you sure thats not bondo (body filler) they put there? it looks strange. Hard to tell, is the vinyl top removed?

Heres a website.I have bought quiet a few parts from them.Probably the biggest company for muscle car parts

Also don't forget ebay

I'm not a super MOPAR fan but that model will not hold value as other models of the Charger. For instance, a 1965/66 Mustang is more valuable than the bigger 1967/68 are. The 1969/70 models are worth even less. As the cars got bigger and more (IMHO) uglier the value goes down. Point being is that the neighbor may not want to throw to much money and time at this one and get one where the payback will be better...who know even positive.

As much as you are, generally speaking, an major asshole - I do like the car,... so try here:

www.jcwhitney.com . . .

They have live chat - and can answer most questions regarding what you are looking for

Additionally, your best bet is to get a contact in the USA that has a good listing of "Junk yards" or "wreckers" ,... they will have used stock parts, particularly things like moldings, trims and "opera window" flanges,...

Yeah, its a shame it is not 72 or earlier. If I remember correctly 73 is when they started reducing the horsepower of the muscle cars. Still could be a nice ride though.

I think the best translation for "carrossier" is "body shop"

Looks like a heap of shit to me. That that thar front fender doesn't look right to me. The top line doesn't follow the flow of that "coke bottle" design I was familiar with back in about 1970. I think it is a bodged copy. Save the engine/transmission and scrap the rest.

Get a finish coat on that primered slab because primer is made to absorb.

Left alone, it absorbs water. Presto, rust.

Ok….
According to… www.stockmopar.com . . .

First the Vin# WP29G3G154709

Body Type: W = Dodge Coronet / Charger
Price Class: P = Premium
Body Type: 29 = 2 Door Sports Hardtop
Engine: G = 318 150HP(net) or 170HP(net) 1-2BBL 8 CYL
Year: 3 = 1973 (model year)
Built- St. Louis
Sequence Number: 154709 = 54709th Vehicle Built
----
Next the codes….

E44 - 318 Engine with 2 barrel Carb.
D34 - 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission
JF8 - (interesting that its listed twice) Color - Dark Green
V3FG - Vinyl Roof color - Forrest Green
V1W - Vinyl Roof with Opera windows (SE Cars)
U - Built for the American Market
B41 - Front Disc Brakes
G11 - Tint Glass all around
G35 - O/SL Hrem Chrome Mirrors
M21 - Roof Drip Rail Moldings
M25 - Wide Sill Moldings
M26 - Wheel Lip Moldings
M31 - Belt & Hood Moldings
M36 - Deck Lid Fin Pan
R35 - Am/Fm Multiplex State Radio
V7W - Accent stripes (on body)
L31 - Hd/Fen Mount Turn Signals
107138 - Sub Line number
C14 - December 14th, 1972.…Happy Birthday!

This is what the car was equipped with on December 14th, 1972 when it left the factory.

The engine is now a 360 according to the pictures…its been replaced with a more powerful engine…this was very common. The new CAFÉ standards which came into law in late 73 rang the death bell for many a muscle car. People still wanted the power…and Chrysler’s new 360 engine which first came out in 74 seemed to answer the peoples call.

I suggest that you join this forum…its 71-74 chargers only…
wichargerguy.proboards.com . . .

Next...
Look under the back seat or even the seat back itself...look for the "Line Build Sheet". Every plant (except Lynch roads, sometimes) put them between the springs of the seat and the foam backing. If it there...remove it carefully! This is also the cars history...and it will increase the value of the car.

Its what we call the "Interchange Book"
Not all parts fit all years within 1971-1974 Chargers.
