Discussions I have a little problem... (karma: 24)

Yesterday my church held its regular, bi-monthly potluck dinner. (For our European friends, this is an event where each family brings a main dish and a couple of side dishes, and we all share).
I made Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas
and 2 gallons of iced tea,
and my wife made her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Other people brought things like sausage,
 Southern-Fried Chicken,
pinto beans with plenty of ham,
 or Barbequed Brisket.
My problem is this:
After enjoying myself, now I feel guilty and am overcome with remorse.
Here I am, enjoying the bounty that God gave the greatest nation on earth, knowing - and I was fully aware of this at the time - knowing the plight that our poor comrades in FRANCE are suffering.
I mean, they have to subsist on stinky, runny, moldy cheese,
 half-cooked snails,
 frogs' legs,
and dry old crusts of bread.
How dare I enjoy myself under such circumstances.
No wonder the French drink so much wine. They are drowning their sorrows over the miserable food they are forced to endure. (And sadly, even THAT is thanks to Texas, who provided the aphid-resistant rootstock for almost all French vineyards). 53 Replies to I have a little problem... |

Horse meat is a taboo food in English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, the US, and Australia, however, horse meat is consumed in Mexico. |

How is sharing a meal "charity?"
We are commanded in the Bible to share fellowship and meals together.
"So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." - Acts 2:46-47 |

LOL. We've got 20 some-odd college students who attend our church. If you want your favorites, get in line ahead of them. |

Here I am, enjoying the bounty that God gave the greatest nation on earth, knowing - and I was fully aware of this at the time - knowing the plight that our poor comrades in FRANCE are suffering.
God gave it to America, and not France, for a reason.
Some of the early Calvinist types (including many of our Massachusetts Puritan forefathers) believed that one's earthly state was a reflection of God's favor. Those who were righteous were rewarded by material success, while the sinful find themselves in less comfortable circumstances.
Enjoy your brisket and enchiladas. They're proof you'll end up on the right hand side of God, while the French, with their horsemeat and snails, are clearly destined for the lake of fire that was prepared for the Devil & his angels. |

Don't feel badly. Yes the poor Frogs have been forced to subsist on crap for centuries but fortunately, America has come to their rescue giving them the most popular restaurant in their country-McDo! They're Lovin' It so much they even opened one at the sight of their most famous art museum!
Now its true that we consider McDonald's cheap and shitty (except for their breakfast) and not the kind of thing one should eat all the time but given the state of Frog food, one can hardly blame them and after all-Le Big Mac is a big improvement over their normal fare. |

It may be ok for the qualitative aspect of things. Unfortunately, concerning the quantitative aspects, there is far less than required to feed a ``hungary'' profart .

Perhaps the french food nazis would like to re-visit the menu of their embarassing history and dine on "French" "cake" |

Our biggest problem while living in the US, was the food. Limited choice, tasteless fruits and vegetables ! Oh yeah, tons of different brands of the same basic crap, all preprocessed, choice of pacakging etc but nothing worth.
Even when you cook yourself (one thing americans can't do), you can't find decent basic ingredients ! Even by the seashore, you fresh fish is limited !
The worst, the beer, chocolate and mustard. But the absolute worst, cakes with the white, blue, yellow stuffing. Just he look of it makes me pew. |

I don't know where the hell you shopped but fresh fruit and vegetables? No problem! Fresh seafood by the coast? Plentiful and cheap.....being from Florida I think I know about this pretty well. Americans can't cook? I can. I know plenty of others who can. Chocolate? Better than in Yurpland. That bitter unsweetened dark shit sucks. Give me milk chocolate over that any day. Beer? The mass market stuff is crap. There are some damned good ones though like Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Shiner Bock, Anchor Steam not to mention all the microbrews.
I will agree with you that America could do with more good domestic beers and better bread especially. That said, Southern Barbecue, Cajun and Tex-Mex are all quite good. |
