If cutting Israel loose means that Israel won't be hand-tied by the US when it retaliates for attacks from Palestinians and neighbor nations, I say it is a good thing and a win win. Israel is always stopped when it turns a defeat into a victory. Israel was restrained by the Us whne it was attacked with Scuds by saddam. Israel would run out of munitions in about two weeks just as they did against Hizbollah if America actually "cut Israel loose".

I tend to agree with Silas here. Israel needs a secure purchasing partner for ammo and other military resources it can't produce domestically. But perhaps there are other countries willing to sell. I've always thought Israel's effort to secure goodwill in Africa was all about securing resources with military application.

Yes, unfortunately, the partnership with South Africa is over. Hopefully, Israel has been able to stockpile for contingencies such as the US throwing it under the bus. They eed to do this anyway, given the trend towards a new antisemitism that is dusguised this time around as solidarity with the "oppressed" Palestinians. /at least they have a good nuclear option which essentially is suicidal, but will rid the world of most of the Muslim menace at least for a few decades.

The US will undoubtedly betray Israel. The EU will reduce it's size to 10 nations and form a stronger federal government.

I voted 'no' only because it would be a strategic blunder to cut off ties with Israel. Israel has been our friend and ally, and has provided the U.S. with intelligence that we could not have gotten otherwise. And, they have bombed iraq and iran when they needed a serious ass-kicking.

What I hate in our relationship is the fact that the U.S. has hobbled, on many occasions, the sovereign right of Israel to defend herself.

Yes, we should phase out all direct aid to Israel. As a courtesy, I would give them a 5 year window to adjust with a draw-down happening every year. Of course we would also draw down all foreign aid from every other country as well. We currently give far more to Arab nations than Israel.

The only foreign aid I am in favor of is for direct humanitarian aid for natural disasters, famine/drought, and military protection in the case of genocide. Also am in favor of aiding things that affect the national security of the US like reclaiming nuclear material from Russia, etc.
