Shoppers crushed by 15-foot Kate Moss billboard on Oxford Street

Four shoppers were injured after a 15-foot billboard of Kate Moss collapsed on top of them.

The wooden advertisement, featuring the supermodel for fashion brand Mango, injured the passers-by on Oxford Street, Britain's busiest road.

Three women and a man were taken to hospital, one with a suspected back injury, while others suffered minor injuries.

Photographs of the freak accident show at least eight policemen struggling to hold up the board.

Shocked shoppers posted photographs of the scene on Twitter,.





Part of the street was closed to traffic while emergency services attended, one eyewitness said told the BBC.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: 'Three fire engines, four fire rescue units and around 40 firefighters are at the scene. The police and London Ambulance Service are also at the scene.

'It is not thought at this stage that anyone is trapped but around four people are thought to have been injured.'



Those injured included a man in his early 60s, a woman in her mid-40s and a 23-year-old woman.

The spokesman added: 'Police carriers backed on to the hoarding to support it while efforts were made by workmen to secure it.

'It was the kind of hoarding that surrounds a shop when it is being refurbished.'



The Health and Safety Executive had been informed and a spokesman told the BBC: 'We are aware and making initial inquiries.'

I imagine coming across a huge billboard of Kate Moss, I would get ecstatic, she is so loverly.

In fact she is a ... knockout ! LOL

Things like that do happen. Talking of billboards, who doesn't remember the Calvin Klein board hanging over Time Square ?

Here we don't have true billboards. We have bus stations with lots of lots of ads for lingerie. A few years ago I go to take the bus and come across that girl in her undies for a brand called "Black Magic", LOL. I felt bewitched.
