the Daily Mail wrote:
Dementia cases 'to double by 2030' says World Health Organisation
A new case of dementia is diagnosed every four seconds
Less than half of dementia cases are routinely recognised even in high-income countries
By Claire Bates
The number of people suffering dementia around the globe is expected to nearly double to 65.7million sufferers by 2030, the World Health Organisation has warned.
By 2050 it is likely to rise 70 per cent above today's figure of 35.6million sufferers.
Dementia is caused by a variety of brain illnesses that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and makes up about 70 percent of cases.
The report published with Alzheimer's Disease International said there are 7.7million new cases of dementia reported each year - with a new person diagnosed every four seconds.
The estimated annual cost of treatment and care is $604 billion (£379 billion).
Yet even in high income countries like the UK and U.S less than half of dementia cases are routinely recognised.
'We need to increase our capacity to detect dementia early and to provide the necessary health and social care,' said Oleg Chestnov, from WHO.
'Much can be done to decrease the burden of dementia. Health-care workers are often not adequately trained to recognise dementia.'
The study also highlights a general lack of information and understanding about the disease, fuelling stigma with the result that people sometimes delay seeking support.
'It is now vital to tackle the poor levels of public awareness and understanding, and to drastically reduce the stigma associated with dementia,' said Marc Wortmann, executive director of Alzheimer's Disease International.
Only eight countries worldwide, including England, have national programmes in place to address dementia, according to the report 'Dementia: a public health priority'.
A spokesman for the leading UK charity Alzheimer's Society, said: 'Two weeks ago, for the first time a British Prime Minister made a personal commitment to drive forward change to transform the lives of 800,000 people with dementia in the UK.
We must now focus our efforts on translating these commitments into better diagnosis and support, increased understanding and advancements in research.'
That's funny, I wonder if they rule as dementia common yute behaviours that are not just a caricature of ours when we were their age.
Binge drinking, abuse of drugs, overdoses of white sugar (diabetes also calls for dementia), gratuitous violence and bullying, God knows ... not to mention a deregulated sex life.
One day they'll disclose that some of our POTUS's were indeed struck with dementia !

Oh no, like I stated above, I certainly wouldn't know more about madness than a first-hand expert like you.
Which is why I'd like to ask you for your specialist opinion:
I know a guy, unemployed for years and living of social benefits in France, who makes the following claims:
a- to be a Europe-wide leader of Zen
b- to have worked for 20 years as a special agent while being deprived of a just compensation
c- to hate the country which feeds him for doing nothing, yet won't move elsewhere.
Would the dementia expert you are call that guy demented?
Just asking

I, repeating the above stated facts?
Erm.
Apart from the fact you repeated the 'facts' about half a zillion times,
of course, I should repeat and never get sleep until justice is done, i.e. either
* (A) justice is done to the poor guy, and his back dues paid in full, or
* (B) the guy is a certified delusional crackpot, and he should be committed to a loon ward
So, back to the question, which is it? Pay the guy? Or offer him a nice padded cell?
If I understand things as they stand, you've been offered the cell minus the padding.
I don't like halfway measures. You deserve better.
One way or another.

Dementia costs Britain over £17 billion a year. This is a case where investing in research into the causes and cure of dementia would pay back big time and possibly quite quickly at that. It would also greatly improve the life of sufferers and their families. | |

Sometimes I think Watcha starts these threads just as a convenient excuse to bitch-slap JeanVer in front of all his little trolly friends.
But then I remember that Watcha-Sama is above such earthly concerns.
