After 73 years, returning Irish veterans pardoned for their service.
Irish Defense Minister Alan Shatter has introduced legislation that will formaly provide an amnesty to Irish soldiers who fought for the Allies (primarily the UK) during WWII.
Introducing the matter in the Dáil, Shatter said:
“The government apologises for the manner in which those men of the Defence Forces were treated after the war by the state. Individuals were not given a chance to explain their absence; no distinction was made between those who fought on the Allied side for freedom and democracy, and those who absented themselves for other reasons.”
Between 1939-1944, over 40,000 Irish citizens "went north" to serve in the British armed forces. When they returned home, those who had been enrolled in the Irish Defense Forces - full time, part time, or volunteer reserve - were punished under Emergency Power Order No. 32, rammed through the Dáil by Eamon de Valera after the war in 1945. Soldiers were immediately dismissed, forfeited all seniority, pay and allowances, and were forbidden from government work for a period of seven years. Worse, their families were made to suffer as well, being denied government aid or benefits for those same seven years.
Several legal experts have called the Order "legally flawed" and "reprehensible."
Shatter said it is time for "understanding and forgiveness," and for the contributions made by Irish soldiers to the Allied war effort to be recognized.

Lordie, Lordie. Whatever next. Might the British government get an apology from these bogtrotting shysters for allowing Irish ports to be used as submarine bases for sinking allied merchantman convoys.
I doubt it, so go kiss my blarneystone, spineless fienian fucks. Hope you're enjoying your eu cheese handouts. A pathetic nation of beggars with their hands out their msters in Bruzzzzles. Has there every been a more pathetic 'nation' in the history of this planet. Not surprising they are a crowd of superstitious catholic wretches and tattie hawkers.
Thanks to these Irish guys that fought on the right side.
LOL, they are not even a nation any more - a mere Bruzzzels province. Fucking pathetic cunts, even worse than the french. |

Says Geordie le nouveau spic. Epic. How far have you reached up the dole queue in your new found paradise. Two days still to go before you get a chance to beg for a job as a seasonal orange picker?
Good luck with that one.
Post more often Traffie, I'm sure we'd all like to hear how well your new country is going.

They had to do something to salvage his future political career after the FBI caught him fucking a Abwehr agent while he was REMFing as Naval Attache for his dear old nazi-loving dad in London. They packed Jack off to the South Pacific just in time, too...it wasn't long after that Daddy told the Saturday Evening Post on the record Britain was finished and we were wasting our time supporting them...basically forcing FDR to shit-can him. |

Bud Wolfe was from McGehee, Arkansas, and had joined the RAF because he was desperate to fly in combat and wasn't prepared to wait for the US to join the war. After ditching his plane in County Donegal, he was picked up by the Garda and, to his fury, interned. Wolfe found himself with over 40 British, Canadian, New Zealand, French and Polish airmen, magnificently fed, on courteous terms with the guards - and just across a corrugated-iron fence, only four feet high, from several hundred men of the Luftwaffe and the German Navy who had strayed into Eire because their planes had run out of fuel, or their U-boats had been shipwrecked. |

Nappy why would Ireland take a chance at destroying herself in a war she had absolutely nothing to gain from except a loss of blood and treasure? |

A few weeks of Nazi rule would have left the Bog-trotters nostalgic for the Black and Tans, or even Old Noll himself. |
