CA Governor claims state recovering faster than national rate... too bad it ain't so.

In his recent State of the State address, Governor Jerry Brown conceded that California had suffered during the Great Recession. Then he claimed the state was recovering.

"California lost 1.3 million jobs in the Great Recession, but we are coming back at a faster pace than the national average."

The first half of his statement is true, but the second half certainly isn't. Since the Great Recession was officially declared at an end (believe THAT if you want to), California has gained back 556,000 jobs - mostly government jobs. That's 42% of those lost, which is well below the national average of 60%. Texas, by way of comparison, lost 427,000 jobs - yet has gained them all back and created an additional 265,000.

Another thing Brown doesn't mention is the fact that California has the third highest unemployment rate in the nation (9.8%), its highest poverty rate, and is home to MORE THAN ONE-THIRD of all US welfare recipients.

So, does anyone wonder why I moved from Kalifornia to North Carolina last year?

Never questioned the wisdom of that, the brief periods I have spent in CA were more than enough time to know I couldn't live there.

My wife and I were in San Fransisco for all of ten minutes when some asswipe crossing the street ran up and stuck his tongue on my wife's passenger side window.

She turned to me calm and cool and said "We can only live here if you let me kill people."

It actually starts getting normal the further north you go. I hear gunfire on the river bar every day of the year. Tanerite every other day. Charges that rattle the windows. But it's still Kalifornia and we still get fucked.
More than 1/3 of all the welfarians? Yeah, that's fucked.

I was in a diner having breakfast, I could overhear 5 separate conversations, four of them were about for different shootings, one old man bitching his eggs were too small, and two waitresses talking about what assholes their boyfriends were.

Four typical conversations here would be,
1. "We're getting some nice old growth redwoods out of Nanning Creek...
2. Dungeness crab finally made weight. The crabbing sure was a late season...
3.Some of Miranda's cows got out last night. One got hit at the bridge...
4. Steelhead are hittin' on the Mad River. Roe or wedding rings seem to be the trick right now...

Seriously... this is the local chat right now.
